Who Qualifies for the Disability Tax Credit?
The word ‘disability’ in ‘Disability Tax Credit’ can be misleading.
Many Canadians live with illnesses and conditions and do not consider themselves “disabled”. However, they may be eligible for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) but are not aware. Often, they qualify to receive retroactive Disability Tax Credits for up to 10 years. The lack of awareness and accessible information are few of many reasons half of all eligible Canadians – nearly 500,000 – are not receiving their disability benefits.
